Research in the IT Field
When doing research, you will want to make use of peer reviewed sources. These
are sources that have undergone a process of assessment and revision and will generally be of higher quality than sources you may find elsewhere. While encyclopedic works such as Wikipedia and How Stuff Works are great for quick answers to questions, this material has been predigested for you and often does not provide sufficient depth. Make use of the publications of the IT related professional societies such as The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). This is where "cutting edge" research is often first published. These publications are available through the GMU Library system online.
