The Senior Design Project was the capstone of the Systems Engineering Program. This two semester course gave us invaluable hands-on experience in applying the tools and methods learned in class to a real systems development effort.
The first semester introduced us to current work in the SITE systems engineering laboratories and centers.
Demonstrations and instruction in systems engineering software packages at GMU and informal technical documentation was given. Students associated themselves with one of the labs and formulated a design project. Project proposals and progress reports were developed, presented to the faculty, and approved by the faculty.
In the second semester, the design project plans were reviewed and modified. Additional instruction was given in documentation and project management. The project was completed, and a formal report was prepared and presented.
This hands-on project was a valuable, practical experience for the students. It is also important to employers as evidence of our capabilities.
