Q:Do I need
to take the GRE, GMAT, and LSAT before applying
to the MS in E-commerce program?
A:You only need to take ONE of the exams. You may select
which exam you want to take. While you may send your application
without the result of the exam, you should arrange for the
official scores to be sent to GMU. Note that no final decision
on your application can be made before we receive
your official scores.
Q:
Does the choice of the exam depend on the specialization
area I select?
A:It is recommended, but not mandatory, that you take
the GRE if you want to specialize in Information Technology,
that you take the GMAT if you plan to follow the
Business specialization, that you take either the
LSAT or GMAT for the Law and Public Policy specialization,
and that you take the GRE or GMAT for the
Health Care and Services Industry specialization.
In any event, you must take ONE of them.
A:Only the General part.
Q:
Can the GRE, GMAT, or LSAT be waived?
A:Only if you already have a Masters degree from
an accredited US higher education institution or
if you have completed UVA's Graduate Certificate in
E-commerce with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
A:The TOEFL is a requirement for all
international students who are not
native English speakers or do not have a higher education
degree from Australia,
Canada, Ghana, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom,
or the United States.
Q:Does an associate degree count as a higher education
degree for purposes of having the TOEFL waived?
A:No, you must have a full bachelor's degree.
Q:What is the minimum TOEFL score required?
A:Your total score should be at least 575 in the
paper test or 230 in the computer based one.
Q:What can I do if my bachelors degree is not a
4-year 120-credit degree?
A:You can complete your degree through GMU's
Individualized Study program

then apply to the MS in E-commerce program? How many
credits can be transferred?
A:Some of the schools participating in the program
allow students with the proper pre-requisites to take
courses as non-degree students. You can transfer up to
12 credits to your degree program once admitted.
Q:Can the MS in E-commerce be taken part-time?
A:Yes. During the course you can go part-time or
full-time according to your needs.
When I graduate:
Q:What are the
job opportunities?
A:This really depends on the area you select as
your specialization area. Some examples of possible
positions for our graduates include: Chief Information
Officer of an e-commerce company, Consultant in a major
consulting company or in a venture capital company,
legal specialist in a law firm specialized in
e-commerce and international business,
expert in e-government issues working at
local, state, and federal government agencies. You can also use GMU's
Career Service to help you find a job.

student health insurance policy?
Q:
Is there an
office for international students?
Q:
Where do I get information about employment under an F-1 visa? A:
The Office of International Students provides this information at http://www.gmu.edu/student/oips/f1employment.html. Q:
How about activities and organization for international students? A:
You can contact the International
Student Umbrella and the GMU
Office of Student Activities.
Miscellaneous:
Q:What is
the difference between the GMU certificate in
E-commerce and the MS in E-commerce?
A:The first difference is that the certificate is
a 15-credit program, while the MS is a 36-credit
program. This allows for a deeper specialization
into one of the different aspects of e-commerce. The
other difference is that the MS in e-commerce recognizes
the many facets of e-commerce and gives students the
opportunity to specialize in many different
areas: Information Technology, Management, Law and
Public Policy, and Health Care and Services Industry.
