Profs. Ken Hintz and Nathalia Peixoto receive $700K from ONR for landmine detection research
Drs. Hintz and Peixoto of our Electrical and Computer Engineering department received a $699,738 grant from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) to continue their research in utilizing a new type of sequential syntactic pattern recognition invented at GMU to detect and classify landmines. This research processes ground penetrating radar signal provided by the US Army to not only detect landmines but also to classify them. The grant is from Sept. 01, 2008 through Sept 30, 2010 and is funded from the Research Division of the Expeditionary Maneuver Warfare & Combating Terrorism Department (Code 30).
Professor Fei Li receives $20K Seed Grant
Professor Fei Li of the Computer Science Department received $20K from the office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development as a Seed Grant. These awards are designed to provide seed funding that has a high probability of leading to a competitive extramural award of significant magnitude.
